American is portrayed at two rival societies: Red American and Blue America. However recent studies have suggested that the parties have more differences between that within due to many diffract factions within each party. Firstly the parties have different policy views such as the Republican Party has a more hawkish foreign policy, committed to high defence spending and the use of power to defend American Interests e.g. Bush invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the war on Terror whereas the Democratic Party has a more ââ¬Ëdovishââ¬â¢ foreign policy, internationalist in seeking diplomatic solutions to problems e.g. Obamaââ¬â¢s commitment to withdrawing American troops from Afghanistan. Many social issues such as Abortion also have distinct differences inâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Within both parties there are sharp differences on a great many issues, for example the Blue Dog democrats are from the Southern States and hold conservative views on all issues economic, social and foreign and are never reliable Democrat voters in Congress. Economically they are ââ¬Ëdeficit hawksââ¬â¢. However the North Eastern Liberals allowed the Republicans to paint the party as a ââ¬ËTax and spendââ¬â¢ p arty supporting Liberal and minority causes. This would suggest that within the Democratic Party alone there is a huge range of views on their political spectrum. However the Republican Party is traditionally less factionalised than the Democrats; however, for years it has been involved in an ideological debate within the party. Moderate Conservativesââ¬â¢ are the ââ¬Ëcompassionate conservativesââ¬â¢ of the party. Socially they are split against their party as they support welfare and believe in some gay rights, gun control and oppose the death penalty. Whereas conservative Republicans are the ââ¬Ënew rightââ¬â¢ of the party and support programmes such as low taxation. They are committed to small government, free markets and deregulation and run on slogans such as ââ¬ËGovernment is not the solution to our problems- it is the problem.
